How do you know if you can cut it as a stripper? Yes, you may have a body like a Greek Adonis and the bone structure of Brad Pitt but if your personality is something similar to that of a wet newspaper and people skills are non-existent, then your time as a male stripper will be limited.

A successful male stripper who spends many years within the industry instead of a few shows requires a bit more than just good looks.

What Is Your Why?

Think about your reasons for starting. If your intentions are to try have sex with a lot of women, go on tinder and save the stripping industry the embarrassment.

Physically entering the industry is one thing, mentally entering it is something else. Your mentality can be the difference between being successful and profitable or being an industry joke for a short time and making no money.

Below is the minimum requirement for a male stripper (in my opinion). If you tick all these boxes (and be honest with yourself) then you have a good chance of lasting within the industry.

From there, integrating these qualities will turn you into a stand-out performer who has consistent work, makes money and has a great reputation.

The Box Ticker

☐ Good looking ☐ Good Show ☐ Good Body ☐ Good Manners ☐ Punctual ☐ Thick Skinned ☐ Adaptable/Creative ☐ Humble ☐ Multi-Tasker/Logistical Wizard ☐ Comfortable Being Fully Naked

Marco Stellini is the definition of box ticker - Which is why he has been #1 for the past 17 years

- Some of these are straight forward but let’s break down the others -

Good Manners:

You should be using them anyway but a simple Please and Thank You will leave a lasting impression for the right reasons. Take it from me not everyone uses this highly underrated tool.

Thick skinned:

Sometimes clients will take their day out on you. There will be some pretty hurtful things said and assumptions made to try completely shred your confidence. So, if you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen.

Adaptable/ Creative:

Each show is different. Guys who cannot adapt or learn to adapt will have a very hard time progressing in the industry and as a performer.

For example: I do shows in houses, hotels rooms and venues from the Gold Coast to Sydney and everywhere in between, with a different crowed at each place. If I was not adaptable and creative on the spot, then I would look amateur.

Humble:

This is the Male Stripper Slayer, too many guys are not humble. No matter how much you try fight it, if not being humble is within you then stripping will bring it out. When this happens, you have about a very short time before that phone stops calling with work.

Multi-Tasker/Logistical Wizard:

When you get good you should be comfortably doing around 7 – 12 shows a night. This can be a nightmare for getting around but if you can juggle multiple bookings in various locations then it is a massive tick. Get creative with how you get about.

This also means keeping in constant contact with the client and creating a good rapport.

Pro Tip: It is hard to find parking in the city sometimes. Keep BMX bike in your car and around the CBD to jobs. With the time you will save you could probably fit another job in.

Comfortable Being Naked:

Sounds funny but most guys say ‘Yeh I’ll go naked’. When it comes down to it, they don’t have the…balls.

Like I said stripping is not for everyone but if you are not comfortable in your own skin then that’s cool, but maybe choose another profession.

Final thoughts:

Putting all these qualities together and using them to your advantage is the single best way to get consistent work and return clients. Building your reputation as a great all-round, polite performer will skyrocket your success as a male stripper. It will ensure your time in the industry is headache free, profitable and fun.

Simple rule ‘Treat everyone the same way you would like to be treated’.

Stay humble.
