The male stripper was gyrating around like Ricky martin, he grabs your hands and runs them down his oily, body and you say to yourself ‘Yuck! This guy is greased up like a pig at a fair, and he smells like one too’. Sound familiar?

Believe it or not this is a common thing that we hear about other male strippers when we do shows.

‘The guy stank, he was greasy/oily and not well maintained’.

There is a huge misconception by the male strippers on how they should present themselves at an event..and maybe it is just poor hygiene on their part.

We will run through 3 common things we hear, some do's and don’ts and give some insight on how we do things here at Unzipped Entertainment, so you know what to expect.

Oil / Moisturiser

‘He was so oiled up it was disgusting’.

Oil and moisturiser are used by a lot of strippers without knowing its purpose.

Oil is used in stage shows where you apply a small amount (preferably coconut oil) to your body. This and with the help of lighting from the lighting rigs, it will help to show off the cuts of your body better, basically to make you look more ripped than you are..we used to call it ‘mud off’.

If you are putting it on in a living room with hopes of looking leaner or just thinking it is what you do, I am sorry to say you are just going to look greasy and gross.

Avoid

Cream

As a personal preference I do not like using cream, if you do not clean properly after and you are doing more than one show a night then you will stink! Nothing worse than that stank dairy smell the rest of the night. The quick solution is baby wipes, they are your best friend when you are working as a performer.

Other than that, if the performer has time and he has just done a cream show, please if you are comfortable with it, offer a shower he and the rest of the parties that night will thank you.

Avoid

Personal hygiene

ree

If you are close to people and your clothes smell it is not attractive so guys please, wash your outfits, we all sweat but if you neglect to wash them then half-way through your shows, they will grow legs and walk out the door.

Personal hygiene at shows or just in general is something that goes a long way.

Now, I am not saying turn up completely bathed in Paco Rabanne but what I am saying is basic hygiene goes a long way.

Be clean, presentable, and well groomed. Take some pride in your appearance. If you are between shows freshen, up get creative.

I have been down near the beach on a jam-packed night and gotten there 15mins early, had a shower at the beach shower, not a hard thing to do and the women at the next job kept saying, ‘Wow he smells great, remember that other male stripper we got who smelt horrible?’.

Think about it like this, little details are what separates the amateurs from the professionals. And when you can make an impression like that who are they more likely to get for their next event, you, or signor stinky?

Final thought

There are so many little parts to this industry that a lot of people do not understand anything past surface level.

The take-away from this is always be presentable. If the roles were reversed and it was your party how would you want the person coming to the door?

My guess would be looking good, in shape, with impeccable hygiene and fantastic manners.

Remember first impressions are made once.
